North Penn Squires Football

Flag
The North Penn Squires flag team battled the Conshohocken Bears last Saturday, with North Penn earning an impressive 22-6 victory.
The NP defense stepped in up in holding the Bears to six points, as Owen Johnson and Deaglan Budd had seven and six flag pulls, respectively, to led the Squires. Nick added four flag pulls, two of which were touchdown-saving. Ben Freer, Patrick McGee and Justin Egner also had a touchdown saving flag pull.
Levar Talley, Luke Cody, James Bones, and Kevin Pico rushed the Bears on almost every play, creating confusion and disruption in the Conshohocken backfield.
The Squires offense was not going to be out done by the defense, and on North Penn’s third play from scrimmage, quarterback Justin Egner faked to the left and rushed to the right and left the Bears behind on a 65-yard touchdown run. The extra point was added by Norm Gee, as he received the handoff and marched into the Bears end zone behind the blocking of James Mangine, Joseph Bogle, Cole Ostroff and James Bones.
On the Squires’ next offensive series, Zach Smith scored his first touchdown of the season, taking the handoff and rumbling 55 yards for the score. The Squires lined up in the shotgun formation for the extra point and center Quinton Lauglin snapped it to Egner who connected to Ben Freer for the two-point conversion.
The Squires offense was not done there. Justin Egner added another touchdown aided by the blocking of Graham Palumbo, Roman Patrone and Jacob Schumacher. Jayden Stahl added the extra point, running around the right edge to get his first points of the season. In Week 6 the Squires will face Roxborough.

55-pound
The weather was beautiful for the North Penn Squires 55-pound team’s game at the Bucks County Bears North Penn opened up with a great defensive stand lead by Mathew Buseck, Bobby Hill, Tyler Craig, and Brady Lawrence. The Squires then scored on their first offensive series on a 40-yard touchdownrun with great blocking lead by Julia Kile, Dylan Wszolek, and Ryan Austin.
Offensive touchdowns where orchestrated by Mike Benedict at quarterback, while Lucas Francis had two touchdowns over 40 yards and Gus Ross had a touchdown run over 40 yards as the Squires win 19-0.
The North Penn defensive stole the show as they did not allow the Bears to record a first down and Chris Freer had two fumble recoveries as the Squires won their third straight game — all by shutout — to stand at 3-1 on the season.

65-pound
After some real battles and low-scoring games, the 0-4 65-pound Squires faced the 3-1 Bucks County Bears.
North Penn did not disappoint, playing smash-mouth football to drive down to the 3-yard line just before halftime but fell short of scoring. The great runs were aide by the solid performance of the offensive line anchored by center Andrew Horan and had Evan Polumbo, Jake Federer and Cole Daley leading the blocking.
Evan Hannings had the best game of any running back to this point of the season as the Squires managed the offense and swarmed on defense. Sam Behr catching three substantial passes from Evin Sullivan. Another long drive resulted in no points for the Squires as the game ended in a 0-0 tie.

North Penn Squires Football

Flag
The North Penn Squires flag team traveled to play the Plymouth Whitemarsh Spartans on Sept. 24. The captains for the week were Cole Ostroff, Luke Cody and Levar Talley as PW won 13-12.
The Spartans received the ball and after flag pulls by Owen Johnston, Zachary Smith and Ben Freer, PW punched it in the end zone with a 5-yard run.
The Squires offensive line, including Joseph Bogle, Quinton Laughlin and center James Mangine, kept the Spartans defensive line in check and on North Penn’s first possession quarterback Justin Egner broke out to score the Squires’ first touchdown to tie the game at 6-6.
The Squires defense held the Spartans off the board for the remainder of the first half, while North Penn scored with no time on the clock to lead 12-6 at halftime when receiver Graham Palumbo’s block on the right-side corner released Egner, who went left and reversed direction across the field for another touchdown
The second half was a defensive battle, with Deaglan Budd, Patrick McGee, James Bones, Kevin Pico and Nick D’Angelo making plays to keep the Spartans out of the end zone. With 2:40 left in the half, the Spartans scored a touchdown to go ahead 13-12.
The Squires received the ball back with less than two minutes remaining and after runs by Freer and Egner the clock ran out with PW holding on to the one-point win.
North Penn travels to Norristown to play the Bandits in Week 3.

▪ The North Penn Squires flag team began the regular season at home against the Conshohocken Bears on Sept. 17. The Squires’ Week 1 captains were Norm Gee, Graham Palumbo, Jaden Stahl and Kevin Pico as North Penn opened with a 26-20 victory.
The Squires defense took the field first, defending the east goal with stops from Ben Freer, Zack Smith, Owen Johnston and Levar Talley. The Bears handed the ball over to the Squires in the second series.
The Squires offense took the field and Jaden Stahl broke a long run up the middle, putting the Squires on the 20-yard line. The next play, behind the blocking of Roman Patrone, Quinton Laughlin, and James Mangine, Joe Bogle took the ball around the right end and scampered in for six points. Norm Gee evaded Conshohocken defenders to add the extra point with a run around the left end.
The Bears offense came back on the field and after stops by Patrick McGee and Nick D’Angelo, Conshohocken’s running back broke a long run for a touchdown.
The Squires offense took the field again and Ben Freer scored on a 50-yard touchdown run to put the Squires up again. Another Conshohocken touchdown made it 13-13 at halftime.
After the Squires took the second half kickoff, Justin Egner faked the hand off to Jaden Stahl and took off for a 40-yard touchdown. On the Bears ensuing offensive drive they added another touchdown and for the first time this season the Squires trailed.
North Penn received the ball and Ben Freer add another touchdown behind the blocking of Cole Ostroff and Jacob Schumacher. The Bears would have one more chance on offense, only to be denied by the Squires linebacking crew that includes Deaglan Budd, Luke Cody and Nick D’Angelo.

▪ The regular season for the NP Squires started with the annual kickoff classic at the end of summer against the Harleysville Eagles. The Squires claimed the cup and won the series. The flag, 55-pound and 75-pound teams won their games with the only win for Harleysville coming at the 65-pound team.

55 lb. Squires
It was a very wet day on the field, but the 55-pound North Penn Squires maintain their footing to scored four rushing touchdowns and allow no points or first downs to Warminster.
On offense, quarterback Mike Benedict pitched the ball successfully all day to Lucas Francis, who scored three touchdowns in the first half. All of the touchdowns runs where lead by the outstanding blocks of Alex Smith, Jake Dolan and Peyton Brown.
Early in the second half, Guss Ross had a 60-yard run, the scored on a 1-yard run the next play.
Defensively, the Squires showed their style of the Wide-9 defense, with a a ton of tackles lead by Ryan Zeltt , Luke Stakelbeck, Zach Kline and Ryan Pico.
On a kickoff, Luke Smeltzer made a touchdown-saving tackle and the score remained 27-0 North Penn as the Squires earned a strong victory over Warminster.
The 55lb. team started the season with a 13-0 loss to Cecil B Moore and are now 1-1 in the young season.

65 lb. Squires
A very tough start to the season with kids being overweight and the QB suffering a concussion did not deter the Squires. Despite an 0-3 start, two games against both Cecil B Moore and Warminster were one-score games until the very end.
Sam Behr and Evin Sullivan have led the offense at the quarterback position and smart-decision making. Sullivan had the most yardage in the first game. Davidson Heinz had scored the team’s only touchdown and Aaron Oscar and Evan Hannings have been the playmakers on the offense.
Line has been effective and getting better each game. Moving the pile and playing great are kids like Jake Federer and Mike Lennon.
Top hitters like Kaleb Paulin, Nolan Roberts and Nolan Verespy have made plays and rung bells on both sides of the ball.
