North Penn Eclipse 18U wins USSSA Blazin' Blitz Tournament


The North Penn Eclipse 18U softball team won the USSSA Blazin’ Blitz tournament held in Limerick on July 16-17.  The gteam completed the weekend play without a loss, winning the championship game over the Marlton Thunder on a dramatic game-ending hit.

Thunderbirds 12U third at ASA State Tournament


The Harleysville Thunderbirds 12U Fastpitch softball team took third Place  in the Pennsylvania ASA 12U State Tournament held July 8-10 in Jessup.

Harleysville 8U wins Cal Ripken District 2 Championship



The Harleysville 8U travel baseball team recently won the Cal Ripken District 2 Championship.  The first-year team played great defense and had outstanding pitching as it gave up a total of 8 runs in the going 4-0 in the tournament.

Harleysville 8U second at Harleysville Stars and Stripes Tournament


The Harleysville 8U Travel baseball team came in second place at the Harleysville Stars and Stripes tournament during the weekend of July 8.  The team earned a finals berth by coming from behind in the sixth inning for a 4-3 victory in the semifinals, then lost a tough game to Warwick in the finals.

Pennridge Little League 14U wins state championship


The Pennridge Little League 14U travel team edged Montoursville 4-3 to claim the 2011 Junior League Baseball Pennsylvania State Tournament championship on Aug. 1 in Cranberry. The state title is first in the 58 years of the Pennridge Little League.

Pennridge went 3-0 in during pool play, defeating Marvine/Weston Park 13-6, Pen-Mar 18-1 and Levittown Continental  4-2. In the semifinals, Pennridge topped Dunbar 4-1.

In winning the District 20 tournament, Pennridge outscored opponents 42-0 in four games. Then at the Section 6 tournament, the team posted another 42 runs while allowing just three in three contests.

Tri-Township 15U wins Babe Ruth Middle Atlantic Region Championship


The Tri-Township 15U baseball team, made up of players from Doylestown, Newtown, Souderton, Lansdale and Willow Grove areas, won Babe Ruth district and states titles and on Aug. 7 claimed the Middle Atlantic Region Championship with an 8-0 win over Manasquan, N.J. to advance to the Babe Ruth 13-15 World Series, which begins Aug. 20 in Jamestown N.Y.

Hatfield Hawks 10U win Hatfield Summer Slam Tournament


The 10 year-old Hatfield Hawks Little League travel team hosted its first ever baseball tournament, the Hatfield 10U Summer Slam Tournament Aug. 4-7. The field included seven teams from the area, including Central Perk, Harleysville, Horsham, Montgomery, Mountainville and Upper Providence.

Hatfield claimed the tournament championship on Aug. 7 with a 8-7 victory over Central Perk.

Harlesyville Thunderbirds Black 14U third at PONY Eastern Nationals


The Harleysville Thunderbirds Black 14-and-under fastpitch softball team went 7-2-1 and finished in third place out of 86 teams at the PONY Eastern Nationals in Cary, N.C.

In the Championship Round, Harleysville held off a last-inning rally by VA Edge to claim a 6-5 quarterfinal victory. The Thunderbirds put runnners on base in their semifinal matchup with W Pine Diamond Dusters, but could not find the bi hit and fell 4-1.

Earlier in the tournament, Harleysville earned a win, loss and tie in pool play, then opened bracket play with a 11-4 victory as it went 5-0 with three shutouts.

Bekah Slattery carried the bulk of the pitching duties, the lefthander throwing the last five games and collecting two shutouts. Emily Allen’s superb defensive efforts at second base prevented a few potential rallies from opponents. Center fielder Jenna Gibbons delivered crucial RBI singles on three occasions in tight games. The long ball off the bat of Kacy Carroll helped bury opponents in three contests. The Thunderbirds thank all who supported our team throughout this fantastic season.

Montgomery County Sports Performance gymansts shine at Sunsplash Invitational


Montgomery County Sports Performance Center gymnasts Kayla and Kianna Yancey from Nor-Gwyn Diving (North Penn School District), Paige Burrell  from Towamencin Diving (North Penn School District) and Nicholas Marino from Nor-Gwyn Diving (Hatboro-Horsham School District) all had strong performances at the Nor-Gwyn Swim Club Third Annual Sunsplash Invitational on July 17.

Trevor Chew of Harleysville sets meet record at UAGTCA Invitational


Trevor Chew, a 14-years-old resident of Harleysville, finished in first place in the 100-meter dash with a meet-record time of 11.42 in the Youth age group (13 and 14 year old) at the UAGTCA (United Age Group Track Coaches Association) Invitational at Widener University July 15-17.

Chew (pictured above on the first-place spot on the podium) broke the four-year-old meet record that was held by recent North Penn High School graduate Brandon Mercer.

Over 1300 athletes from the states of Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Delaware, Virginia and Pennsylvania and the Caribbean nation of Barbados competed in the meet. Chew runs for AOC (Ambler Olympic Club), which practices at Gwynedd Mercy Academy, and is competing in the 100 and 200 meters along with the 4x100 relay at the AAU Junior Olympics July 30-Aug. 6 in New Orleans.

Deep Run 11-year-old Baseball wins 'Field of Dreams' Tournament


The Deep Run Thunderhawks 11-year-old travel baseball team won its "Field of Dreams" tournament on June 19 with a a 9-2 championship-game victory over Harleysville to finish 5-0.

Harleysville wins Bux-Mont Connie Mack 'C' Tournament


Harleysville won the Bux-Mont Connie Mack 'C' championship with an 11-1 victory over Hatfield.

The team, which went 5-0 in the playoffs, was made up of the Harleysville 1C and 2C teams, with the combined postseason side having seven players from each team.

The 1C team, coach by Dana Luscombe finished in first place with a 14-0 record, while the 2C squad, coach by Jeff Faust, came in second place wtih an 11-2 record.

Team members included: David Schreffler, Nathan Yoder, Nate Luscombe, Blake Gular, Connor Lennon, Andrew Horton, Jack Reigler, Derek DiCesare, Nate Klaus, Matt Mason, Trevor Faust, Logan Moyer, Shawn O’Donnell, Chris Toler.

Pennsylvania 4-H Air Rifle Team


The Pennsylvania 4-H Air Rifle team finished third and fifth place in daily events, as well  earning individual top 10 awards as  12 members competed in Air Rifle, Small Bore Rifle and Hand Guns, Shot Gun and Archery events at the National 4-H event in San Antonio Tex.
