Allison Smith wins vault, floor at PA Level 8 State Gymnastics Meet


Allison Smith, a resident of Telford who attends eighth grade at Indian Crest Middle School, competed at the Pennsylvania Level 8 State Gymnastics Meet in Pittsburgh on March 31. Smith took first in both the vault (9.70) and floor (9.475), second in the all-around (37.30), third in the beam (9.30) and also competed in the bars (8.825). Her Level 8 team also came in first place. Smith qualified for regionals, which were held April 28-29 in Bernville.

Montgomery County Gymnastics Center boys teams shine at state championships



Two Montgomery County Gymnastics Center gymnasts won the all-around competition while the boys team claimed nine other golds at the Pennsylvania Men’s Gymnastics State Championships, held March 31-April 1 at Penn State University.

Jonathan Tang, age 16, won the Level 10 all-around honors with a score of 83.4. Tang also won the gold on floor, vault, parallel, bars and high bar and silver medal on rings. He resides in Malvern, PA and is a junior at Great Valley High School.

Tang now advanced to the regional championships in West Point, N.Y. on April 14-15 where he competed against the top boys from seven states.

Matthew Coombs, age 8, won the Level 5 all-around championship. He also won the gold on floor, parallel bars and high bar. Coombs won silver on vault and bronze on rings.

Level 6 gymnast Dominic DiPietro, age 11 of Souderton, took second in the all-around while also winning the floor and parallel bars.

Matthew Burgoyne, age 8 of Lansdale, was second in all-around in Level 4 and took first in both rings and vault.

Joseph Perri claimed gold in Level 6 high bar.

Several other Montco gymnasts helped to gather a total of 38 medals — Optional Level 9 Nicholas Marino, age 13, of Horsham Level 4 Steven Glenn of Lansdale, Level 6 Bryant Durant, age 11 of Perkasie. All Level 5 through 10 gymnasts were regional qualifiers and advance to the next level of competition at our seven-state regional championships.

Coombs and DiPietro were also chosen to be members of the Pennsylvania Team and will compete against other state teams at the Level 5 and 6 Regional Championships at Temple University on April 28.

Montgomery County Sports Performance Center is 30,000 square foot national training center for gymnastics located in Harleysville It is also home of Cal Sports and Dr. Drill, SEPA Wrestling, Cheer Force Cheer, Irish Dance, and many more sports and fitness related activities.

Spirit Gymnastics' Emily Brozena wins state balance beam title



On March 10-11, the PA Level 4 Gymnastics State Championships were held at the Church Farm School in Exton. Spirit Gymanstics’ Emily Brozena (age 10) became the state champion on the balance beam with a score of 9.45. Brozena took silver medal on vault, floor exercise and all-around. Also earning silver for Spirit Gymnastics was Alexis Berger on vault, balance beam, floor exercise and all-around. Haley Busse claimed bronze on vault and balance beam.  Celina Fulcher and Kalin Halstead were both Level 4 state qualifiers and competitors.

Montgomery County Sports Performance gymansts shine at Sunsplash Invitational


Montgomery County Sports Performance Center gymnasts Kayla and Kianna Yancey from Nor-Gwyn Diving (North Penn School District), Paige Burrell  from Towamencin Diving (North Penn School District) and Nicholas Marino from Nor-Gwyn Diving (Hatboro-Horsham School District) all had strong performances at the Nor-Gwyn Swim Club Third Annual Sunsplash Invitational on July 17.

Montgomery County Gymnastics competes at the PA USAG Level 7 State Championships

Montgomery County Gymnastics, located in Harleysville, had four gymnasts compete at the Pennsylvania USAG Level 7 State Championships in Washington April 30-May 1.

Kianna Yancey was eigth overall and Paige Burrell was 23rd overall out of 36 gymnasts in the Junior A Division. Victoria Arnold placed 16th overall in the Senior A Division and Lindsey Fritz placed fifth overall in the Senior C Division. Montgomery County Gymanstics came in 13th overall out of 32 teams.

Jaylene Everett of Harleysville first in All-Around at Red Rose Invitational

Jaylene Everett of Harleysville and a Level 8 Gymnast at Spirit Gymnastics in North Wales competed in the Red Rose Invitational in Lancaster on March 5, placing first on vault (9.15), second on bars (9.05), third on beam (9.075), second on floor (9.375) and first in the all-around with 36.65.

Allison Smith wins vault, bars at Pennsylvania USAG Level 6 State Meet

Allison Smith of Telford, a Level 6 gymnast at Spirit Gymnasts competed at the 2010 Pennsylvania USA Gymnastics Level 6 State Meet in Washington May 8-9.
Smith was the state champ on the vault (9.475) and bars (9.30), winning the vault at the third-straight level (four, five and six). She came in second all-around (36.875) and beam (9.075) and was sixth in the floor exercise (9.025). Smith will continue at Spirit, and will start training as a Level 7 gymnast.

Everett, Offner go 1-2 at Keystone State Games

Jaylene Everett of Harleysville (pictured right) scored 37.05 to take first all-around in the Level 7 Age 12 division at the Keystone State Games, held at Spirit Gymnastics in North Wales on May 22. Everett's event scores were: 9.6 vault (first place), 8.9 bars (second place), 9.05 beam (second), 9.5 floor (first place).
Katie Offner (pictured left), also of Harleysville, took second Place All-Around with a 36.375.
Both girls qualified and are competing at the State Games of America in San Diego, Calif. in August 2011.

Spirit Gymnastics competes in Trinidad and Tobago

Six local members of Spirit Gymnastics in North Wales made a little bit of history when they traveled down to Trinidad and Tobago.

The gymnasts were the first Americans to participate at a competition in the Caribbean nation, representing Spirit at the Tots and Tumblers Gymnastics Club's 14th Annual Invitational "We Be Flippin" in Port of Spain March 12-13.

Spirit coaches Gene Speer, Reggie Speer and Erin Tomes began the trip by joining Tots and Tumblers owner Annette Telfer for a radio interview on i95.5 FM in Port of Spain. They discusses the current and future states of gymnastics in T&T along with talking about the Sprit program itself.

A private open workout was held for Spirit gymnastics on March 12 in the open-air Woodbrook Youth Center. That night, the opening ceremonies of the meet were held, with the start of competition for levels 6-10.

At the conclusion of the meet and awards, Gene and Reggie Speer presented Telfer and the host team with a banner signed by all the Spirit coach and gymnasts. Spirit team members also present each of the Trinidadian gymnasts with a pin.

The three Level 4 Spirit gymnasts competed on March 13.

Along with short trips to Port of Spain on their own, the Spirit gymnasts and families attended a private beach party given by the host gym that was only accessible by boat the afternoon of March14.

The following are the local results from the Tots and Tumblers 14th Annual Invitational.
Level 8
Victoria Cosenza (Age 14, Lansdale) second-bars (7.2), second-beam (8.15), second-floor (8.8), third-all-around (32.45).
Samantha Hatfield (Age 13, North Wales) vault-third (8.5), bars-third (7).
Level 7
Megan Thompson (Age 12, Blue Bell) vault-first (9.45), bars-third (8.6), beam-second (8.5), floor-third (8.3), all-around-third (34.75).
Level 4
Grace Wilson (Age 9, North Wales) second-bars (9.2)
Rachel Radnich (Age 9, Ambler) bars-third (9.0), floor-second (8.8), all-around-third (35.525).
Isabella Martinez (Age 10, North Wales) first-bean (9.0).
