The FC Towamencin U11 girls soccer team, The Towamencin Thunderbolts, won the EPYSA Indoor State Cup Division II Championship on Saturday, Jan. 29. This event is the largest indoor tournament of the season with 24 teams. The Thunderbolts started at 9 a.m. with a last-minute loss, but bounced back to win their next two, including a 4-0 victory over the team they lost to in the morning. In the final, the Thunderbolts scored early and earned a 1-0 win to become Indoor State Cup Champions.

The Towamencin Tigers U10 girls soccer travel team played in the Jack Walsh Memorial Soccer Tournament in Abington Oct. 9-10. The team played four very strong and consistent games during the tournament and took first place overall.
On Oct. 9, the Tigers played two 45-minute games. The first game, we played PSC Wildcats and won 2-0. The Tigers had a three-hour break during which time we bonded as great friends. In the second game, the Tigers played Cheltenham Blue Thunder and won 4-0 because our mighty defense would not let the ball past them.
On  Oct. 10, our team played two more 45-minute games. In the third game of the tournament, we were up against the Plymouth Predators. During this match, we really started to play “Tiger soccer” on the pitch. We were attacking the ball relentlessly and not afraid to go to the ball. The Tigers ended up winning by a shutout score of 7-0.
Finally all our hard work in practice paid off in the championship game against Valley Venom. After screaming our cheer, we took the field. Standing there with our skin tingling and hearts racing, the two strikers looked at each other and knew right away that their team could win the game. The whistle blew and the Tigers took the ball. However, the Tigers were dribbling up the field when an opponent came up and took it. We tried hard to get it back but we couldn't. Valley Venom is a very determined team and ended up scoring a goal.
Nevertheless, as we were running back up the field we heard our goalie Julie Mumford yell “Tigers don't give up” and we didn't. We came back and put in the next three goals. At the end of the game the score was 3-1 and the Tigers had won the gold.
We were jumping up and down with joy. Even though I am proud that we won the gold, I am more proud of my teammates because we played our hearts out and played as a team, and that is all that matters.

The Harleysville Soccer Club completed its intramural season on Sept. 11. Team Red won U-15 Boys League championship with an undefeated playoff run.
