Souderton Strikes U-19 take first at USA National Indoor Tournament
The Souderton Strikers U-19 field hockey team placed first at the USA National Indoor Tournament in Virginia Beach, Va. A ninth place finish in a qualifying tournament had the Strikers just short of qualifying for the N.I.Ts, but a few week later coaches Courtney Hughes and Nicole Bauer gave the news the team had made it in on lotto.
Souderton’s offense consisted of Courtney Bradshaw, Rachel Valentine, Alayna Brown, Tabitha Almond and Emily Rodenberger, with the defensive lineup of Taylor Yoder, Megan Bolton, Bekah Hershey playing in front of goaltender Jennifer Bergey. In the championship game, the Strikes faced High Voltage of Maryland, with both teams entering 6-0. With less than a minute left, Rodenberger scored on a corner to give Souderton a 2-1 victory.
