Hatboro-Horsham 5th Grade travel basketball wins ICBA division title



The Hatboro-Horsham fifth grade travel basketball team finished 18-4 overall, 15-0 in winning the Inter-County Basketball Association Boys U10 D2a championship. The team defeated Spring-Ford 46-32 in the final. Hatboro-Horsham led the division in points scored and second in points allowed.

Big Orange Dawgs win Montgomery Basketball Recreation League Pro Division



The Big Orange Dawgs  won the Boys Pro Division Championship (8, 9 and 10 graders) in the Montgomery Basketball Recreation League at BucksMont Indoor Sports Center in Hatfield.

Denver Nuggets win CAL Sports 2nd-3rd Grade Division


The Denver Nuggets of the 2nd-3rd grade division of the CAL Sports Academy went 8-0 and won the Winter session basketball championship. Sean Smith earned MVP honors.

Navy Blue wins TYA Basketball Minors Championship



The Navy Blue team won the TYA Basketball Minors Division championship with a 60-57 victory over the Light Blue team.

TYA Red Bulls take first at Inglewood Tournament

Sixers win SHYBA 13-14-Year-Old Division


The Sixers were awarded first place trophies after winning the Souderton-Harleysville Youth Basketball Association championship game for the 13-14-year-old division. The team went undefeated the entire season.

New York Liberty wins SHYBA Girls 9-10 Championship



The New York Liberty won the SHYBA Girls 9-10 Basketball League Championship. The girls were sponsored by McKnight Steel. They finished the regular season with a record of 12-2. In the playoffs, the Liberty went 3-0 and finished the season with a 15-2 at Souderton Area High School during March Madness. The final was an 21-19 victory against the LA Sparks.

Allison Lindsay takes first, J.P. Egan a finalist at NBA FIT Dribble, Dish and Swish nationals

Allison Lindsay of Harleysville took first place in the Girls 7/8 Division while Lansdale’s J.P. Egan was a finalist in the Boys 7/8 Division at the NBA FIT Dribble, Dish and Swish national finals, held During the NBA All-Star Weekend in Orlando, Fla.


Lindsay and Egan won the local Dribble, Dish and Swish competition at the CAL Sports Academy in Harleysville, then were first at the regional even in Philadelphia in January. That earned each , all-expenses paid trip to compete at nationals and attend all of the All-State Game activities.


Throughout the weekend they met Basketball Hall of Famers Moses Malone, Dominique Wilkins and Magic Johnson along with the Miami Heat’s Dwyane Wade and got autographs from many other legends. After the competition, Wade shook their hands and handed them their trophies.


Lindsay and Egan  sat courtside during the Rookie Game on Feb. 24 watching the New York Knights’ Jeremy Lin.  During the pregame show, they were on the actual court showing off their basketball skills.


On Feb. 25, Lindsay, Egan and their fellow DDS participants were announced during a break in the action at All-Star Saturday Night (Slam Dunk Contest) and they were up on the same stage where the Pit Bull Halftime Show was held as well as on the jumbotron.  For the finale, they attended the sold out All Star Game on Feb. 27.

The U10 Towamencin Bandits won the Kelly Bollish Basketball Tournament on Dec. 30 in Horsham.
Towamencin beat Doylestown in the championship game.

Corpus Christi White Varsity Boys win St. Maria Goretti Tournament


The Corpus Christi Varsity White boys basketball team won the St. Marie Goretti Christmas Boys and Girls Basketball Tournament December 27-30 at SMG gym in Hatfield. The tournament featured 32 teams with varsity and junior varsity fields for both boys and girls.

Corpus Christi claimed the tournament championship with a 32-24 victory over St. Phillip Neri on Dec. 30.

MMR Varsity Girls B wins St. Maria Goretti Tournamentt


Over the Christmas break, the Mary, Mother of the Redeemer Varsity Girls Basketball B team took home the Championship Trophy in the Saint Maria Gorretti Basketball Tournament. The team, coaches by Joe DeFinis and Nick LaSanta, won all three games to claim the tournament title. The trophy will be displayed at MMR. Team members include: Isabella DeFinis, Julia Friel, Gabrielle Green, Julianne LaSanta, Anna Wojtko, Monica Senour, Jacquelyn Jester,Lindsay Rock, Emma Weber.

SHYBA Girls-11 Travel Basketball wins Warrington-Warwick Warm-up Tournament


The SHYBA Girls-11 Travel Basketball Team won the 2011 Warrington-Warwick Warm-up Tournament over the Thanksgiving weekend, sweeping all four of their games, including a 25-16 victory over Spring-Ford in the championship.

Montgomery Knights win Backcourt Hoops Spring Slam

The Montgomery Knights 17-year-old AAU basketball team won the Backcourt Hoops Spring Slam in Scranton May 14-15. The Knights, who feature plyaers from Suburban One League schools, went 4-0 in the tournament, winning the championship game 70-51.

Montgomery Fusion Girls 12U wins TarHeels Classic

Deep Run Skyhawks 13s win Above the Rim Tournament

The Deep Run SkyHawks 13s travel basketball team went 4-0 to win the Above the Rim tournament.

Deep Run, which won the tournament the previous two years, started off every game with a full-court press to set the tone. The Skyhawks' Tommy Nuneviller, Brian Rosenberg, Mauricio Columna, and Sam Handy brought the defensive intensity, while Danny Ziccardi, Joey Unangst, Danny Shane, and Adam Bahl lead the way in scoring.  Devon Rice played solid at point guard and Teddy Rohrbach hit timely three pointers.

Team Blue wins TYA Basketball Girls Majors championship

Team Blue (sponsored by Pet Patrol) swept a championship series in two games by scores of 51-46 and 46-37 against a previously undefeated team to win the TYA Basketball Girls Majors (ages 13-18) title.

Deep Run Skyhawks win three championships

The Deep Run Skyhawks U12 boys travel basketball team went 23-0 against 12-year old competition, won two tournaments and one league championship and outscored opponents by nearly 500 points.

The Skyhawks claimed the King of the Court II Tournament title by winning by 35 in the semifinals then besting Southampton in the final.  Deep Run won the ICBA league title with an eight-point win over Whitpain in the final and two hours later added a title championship after defeating Warrington by 20 points in the Deep Run Tournament final.

Corpus Christi March Madness Tournament raises over $1,500 for cancer charities

The Corpus Christi CYO ninth annual March Madness basketball tournament brought together hundreds of students, alumni and parishioners to raise over $1,500 for the American Cancer Society and Coaches vs. Cancer. The weekend-long event featured boys and girls games. Teams were named after top NCAA contenders and were coached by 50 returning Corpus Christi alumni.
