Towamencin Titans 10U wins Clash of the Titans

The Towamencin Titans 10U travel team took first place in the "Clash of the Titans" Towamencin 10U Travel Tournament with a 9-6 victory over Nor-Gywn Hawks in the championship game on June 29.

Harleysville 11U wins Harleysville Stars and Stripes Tournament

The Harleysville Baseball 11U Travel Team recently won the annual Harleysville Stars and Stripes Tournament at the Gruber Road complex. Harleysville Baseball Association hosted the tournament with teams competing from all over the region in a 12-team event. After losing their first game to Hatfield, Harleysville won its next four games, beating No. 1 seed Boyertown 5-4 with two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Harleysville Hornets 12U take first at DJ Farrar Invitational Tournament

The Harleysville Hornets 12U travel baseball team earned first place honors at the 12-team Montgomeryville DJ Farrar Invitational Tournament held July 7-11. The Hornets finished with a 5-0 record, earning victories by scores of 9-1, 2-1, 4-3, 12-5 and 5-3 in the championship game. Nate Luscombe had a strong pitched performance throughout the entire tournament and hit the decisive three-run home run in the bottom of the fifth inning in the championship game.

Green Team wins Hatfield Majors

The Hatfield Baseball Majors Division Green team sponsored by Souderton Auto Body finished the season with a record of 14-4 and defeated the Gray team 6-5 in the playoff final to claim first place.

Deep Run U12 softball wins Oley Tournament


The Deep Run Lightning U12 softball team took first place at the Oley Softball Tournament June 5-6. Deep Run went 6-0 in the two days, compiling 62 hits and 80 runs, while allowing opponents just eight hits and nine runs.

In the championship game against the Northwestern Tigers, Liz Nace gave up only four hits as the Lighting won the tournament with a 13-3 victory. Natalie Babik had four hits, while Morgan Labs had three hits.

Deep Run began the tournament Saturday with a 21-5 win over host team Oley. Becca Cassel paced the offense with three hits. Liv Campbell and Tori Muredda each finished with two hits. Starting pitcher Briana Grey threw one inning, while Lisa Bahmueller pitched the remaining of the contest.

Nace threw a no-hitter in the second game, a 9-1 win over the Abington Angels. Rylee Cassel had two hits. Deep Run ended Saturday by downing Kutztown 14-0. The Lightning had nine hits, two coming from Babik. Nace threw a one-hitter, striking out eight in four innings.

Deep Run defeated Kutztown again Sunday, as Gery and Nace combined to retired all 12 Kutztown batters they faced. The Lighting collected 12 hits - Babik, Nace, Campbell and Muredda each finishing with two - while Bahmueller homered in the first inning.

In the semifinals against STAA, Bahmueller hit a two-run home run in the first and Gery allowed just two hits and struck out eight in five innings as Deep Run earned a 11-0 victory. Campbell finished the contest with three hits and three runs scored.

Harleysville Hornets 12U take second at Harleysville Stars and Stripes


The Harleysville Hornets 12U travel baseball team earned second place at the Harleysville Stars and Stripes Tournament, held June 24-27. The Hornets won their first four games by score of 6-0, 15-1, 11-0 and 4-2 before falling to Boyertown in the championship.

North Penn Eclipse 18U win Firecracker Spectacular


The host North Penn Eclipse 18U girls softball team allowed only one run in three games on Sunday,  finishing with a 11-0 championship victory over the Lehigh Valley Vengeance in four innings at the USSSA 2010 Firecracker Spectacular Softball Tournament, held July 3-4 at Schweiker Park in Lansdale.

The Eclipse thank the North Penn Valley Girls Softball (concessions), USSSA (coordination) and the Eclipse parents for field maintenance for their help in running a successful tournament.

Harleysville Hurricanes U16 girls take first place at Beach Blast


The Harleysville Hurricanes U16 girls soccer club, lead by coach Debbie James-Roland, took first place in the U16 Girls Shell bracket at the Eighth Annual Cape Express Beach Blast 5v5 Sand Soccer Tournament June 26-27 in Wildwood, N.J. The Hurricanes defeated the Lightning 3-1 in the final.

Annie Bradley and Jackie Rutter, both of Boyertown, as well as Heather Spotts of North Penn each scored three goals. Amber Roland of Harleysville, along with Gabby Genuario and Megan Bechtel, both of Boyertown all finished with two goals. contributed two goals. Megan Janderchick of Boyertown provided strong goaltending.

Kulpsville Comets 12U second, fourth place finishes at tournaments

The Kulpsville Comets 12U travel baseball team took second place at the Brandywine Youth Baseball Association 12U Tournament and fourth place at the ECTB Lehigh Valley Summer Slam 12U Tournament.

Harleysville Thundersbirds 18U wins Hopewell Bad Girls XVI

The Harleysville Thunderbirds 18-and-under fastpitch softball team won its third tournament of 2010, going 6-0 to claim first place at the Hopewell Bad Girls XVI in New Jersey. The Thunderbirds had previously won the first-ever Midnight Madness in Williamsport and the Memorial Day Classic in Quakertown.

Harleysville won three games on the first, earning one of the top seeds. In the second day's championship bracket, the Thunderbirds defeated NJ Breakers 8-1 and Northampton Lightning 13-0 to advance to the finals.

They won three games on Saturday securing one of the top seeds. The team came out on fire Sunday in the championship bracket beating the NJ Breakers 8 - 1 and Northampton Lightning 13 - 0 to advance to the finals.

Facing the Pennsbury Hurricanes for the championship, Harleysville received solid relief pitching from Kayla Kresley, while Mandi Rush delivered a seventh-inning walk-off RBI single to give the Thunderbirds the 6-5 victory.

Comprised of young ladies from Alburtis, Harleysville, Jeffersonville, Lansdale, Phoenixville, Quakertown, Royersford, and Telford, the Thunderbirds have qualified for USSSA Nationals in Ocean City, Md.

Harleysville Hornets win Upper Perk Tournament

The Harleysville Hornets 12U travel baseball team earned first place honors at the Upper Perk Tournament June 18-20. Andrew Horton was named MVP of the championship game, as he was the winning pitcher and hit the go-ahead three-run home run in the fifth inning.

U10 Montgomery Mavericks win Montco League Rookie League Championship

The U10 Montgomery Mavericks travel baseball team, coached by Tom Bradstreet and his staff, defeated Upper Dublin to win the Montco League Rookie League Championship on June 20.
