MMR 8th Grade Softball wins Region 20

The Mary, Mother of the Redeemer (MMR) Vikings eighth-grade girls softball team recently completed an undefeated league season on its way to winning the 2010 CYO Region 20 championship,  defeating St. Stanislaus 2-0 in a best-of-three series. The Vikings finished league play 15-0 and went 18-1 overall. MMR represents  the region in the upcoming Archdiocese of Philadelphia CYO tournament.

Everett, Offner go 1-2 at Keystone State Games

Jaylene Everett of Harleysville (pictured right) scored 37.05 to take first all-around in the Level 7 Age 12 division at the Keystone State Games, held at Spirit Gymnastics in North Wales on May 22. Everett's event scores were: 9.6 vault (first place), 8.9 bars (second place), 9.05 beam (second), 9.5 floor (first place).
Katie Offner (pictured left), also of Harleysville, took second Place All-Around with a 36.375.
Both girls qualified and are competing at the State Games of America in San Diego, Calif. in August 2011.

Triple Threat Bearcats 12U wins Emmaus Tournament

Triple Threat Bearcats 10U takes second at Cal Ripken Under Armour Ignite Tournament

The Triple Threat Bearcats 10U baseball team continued its successful 2010 campaign by placing second in the Cal Ripken Under Armour Ignite Tournament May 22-23.
The Bearcats took a 13-3 record into the tournament to face some of the best 10U teams on the East Coast and played on youth-sized versions of fields such as Oriole Park at Camden Yards, Wrigley Field, Fenway Park and Memorial Stadium.
In the tournament opener, the Bearcats scored four runs with two out sin the final innings to beat Tri-State Arsenal Select 6-5. Wins over the Pittsburgh Outlaws Orange and The Shore Thunder Dogs (Laurel, Del.) advance the team to the semifinals, where the Bobcats came back from a two-run deficit in the final frame to best the SJ Warriors 4-3.In the final, the Bearcats fell to Shore Fire 7-0.

Majors
The Travis and Aldefer Cardiology Red Sox visited the The Thompson Organization Phillies on May 22, with the Phillies earning a 5-4 win.
The Red Sox mounted a strong comeback in the fifth inning, as Killian Ford delivered a clutch two-RBI single to bring his team to within a run. But Phillie Bobby Maher shut the door with a ground out to end the game. Nick Schnable from the Phillies delivered the big blow in the first with his two-RBI double. Cole Rand made a key base-running play, stealing from third base to score the Red Sox's second run of the game.

--The Penn View Farm Marlins bested the Ken Beer and Sons Excavating Angles 13-3 on May 8. The Angels began the game off hitting the ball well. Dylan Henry started them off with a nice single to left field. Mitch McLeod drove in the first run with a screaming line drive to right for a triple.
The Marlins came right back batting through their lineup in the first inning Jake Wiley went 2-for-3 and Ben Werkhieser had a great day at the plate hitting a double, single and drawing a walk.

--The Thompson Organization Phillies faced the Ken Beer and Sons Excavating Angels on May 1. The Phillies walked away with a 10-3 win as their hot bats key to the victory. They produced 12 hits in the game, led by Bobby Maher (three hits), Connor Schnable (two hits), and a fifth-inning home run by Frankie Buccafuri (two hits). The Angels had a strong pitching performance by Anthony Romeo and a great catch from right fielder Edward Kerrigan.

AAA
On May 24, The Thompson BMW Mets got clutch first-inning hits from Mathew Guinette and Ken Estep. Drew Moyer also had a big double in the inning. The Snap Fitness A'S got solid fielding and hitting from Jack Haring, while the Eissler triplets, Luke,Mathew and Nick, contributed with a combined eight hits.

--Fran Rawa's Grim Law Offices Phillies sponsored by took on Bob Mason's Geitz Machine, Inc. Rockies in an old fashioned slug-fest on May 22, with the Phillies collecting a 11-9 victory.
Ethan Rawa pitched three outstanding innings for the Phillies and Zack Mason for the Rockies came in to restore order. The hot bats for the Phillies were Eric Slater and Ethan Gemzik, each driving in runs. The Rockies' offense was led by Aidan Barlow while solid defensive plays by Tristan Diaz at second base kept this game close.

--The Thompson BMW Mets hosted the Geitz Machine, Inc. Rockies on May 19. The Rockies started off batting against Matthew Guinette. For most of the night. Nicholas Ricca of the Mets caught a deep ball to right, saving a run.
The Rockies also had a couple great outfield catches by both Owen Oniskey and Zackary Mason. Shawn Ackley of the Geitz Rockies had the games first double and two RBIs during the fourth.

--On May 15 the Geitz Machine, Inc. Rockies played host to the David Brooke Rush Builders Indians, with the Rockies coming up with a 7-3 win. Brad Giachetti, Matt Ludlow, and Dan Passanante paced coach Trey Cope's Indians on offense. The Rockies' strong defense, however, kept Indian base hits and runs at a minimum.

--Matt Milliron pitched two great innings on May 10 when the Dr. Robert Azarik Orthodontics Cubs faced the Cooper Mechanical, Inc. Yankees. Zach Alexander had two hits, three RBIs, and Stone Dyer showed a great effort behind the plate for the Cubs.
Brendon McBrierty did a great job pitching for the Yankees. Samuel Cressman showed great defensive playing, and Kyle Hunsberger showed exceptional hitting.

--The Geitz Machine, Inc. Rockies played host to the Yankees in a classic pitchers duel on May 8, with the Rockies claiming a 2-1 victory on Joey DiStephano's RBI single in the bottom of the sixth.
Rockies pitchers Dillon Mason and Shawn Ackley threw four scoreless innings while the Yankee pitchers matched them pitch for pitch. Yankees offensive power came from Trevor Fling, Sam Cressman, and Ryan Haney.

--The Smale Stover Insurance Orioles got excellent pitching from Sean Yoder, Ryan Warner and Christian Guldin on April 30 while the Snap Fitness A's got good hitting from Billy Walsh and Patrick Coughlin.

Minor A
The Thompson Toyota Rockies host the David Brooke Rush Builders Phillies on May 24. For the Rockies, McKade Trauger rifled a throw to second base from right field to shortstop Jonny Beare to get a tag out of a Phillie going for a double. Also, Sander Danchack made a spectacular running catch in left field. The Phillies also had some great hits from Raymond Knight and Brandon Yothers.

--The Thompson Toyota Rockies hosted the Petrosky Consulting A's in a damp and drizzly game on May 12. For the Rockies, McKade Trauger had a spectacular catch of a high pop at first base. Trent Campbell jumped up as catcher to make the third out in an inning. Zach Keagy had a great night hitting. For the A's, Phillip Long had a couple of solid hits to help his team out. Shawn Gallagher made a double play on a pop up and tag of second base. Shawn Duffy played first base like a pro.

--The Passerini Construction Marlins and the Pennridge Pediatrics Pirates met in a well-played game on May 10. The Marlins were led at the plate by Justin Lyle'sthreeBrayden Connor also contributed a great play in the field and a huge hit in the fifth inning.
The Pirates were led defensively by Colin Monahan, who made a diving catch and unassisted double play. Eric DeFeo and Julian Birnbaum each had multiple hits to pace the offense.

--The Thompson Toyota Rockies, played the Pennridge Pediatrics Pirates. For the Rockies, Aaron Pringle made a stellar play at first base. Jonny Beare had a great fielding play to get an out at third. Aiden Savoy had a good night at the plate with a couple of hits. For the Pirates, Nate Boyd hit a double. Patrick Pottichen had a strong hit up the middle. Stanley Dworak made awesome fielding plays tonight.

--Sean Gallagher of the Petrosky Consulting A's ended the first inning with a fantastic grab at third to throw out the runner at first base on May 3. He also had a nice hard hit down third-base line for a single. Phillip Long had great catches at shortstop to end the third inning. Dawson Bennett was on his 'A' game both on offense and defense.
For the Guy Coby DMD Orioles, Clark Baker bat was on fire with hard hits to left field in the 5th. James Allen had outstanding plays in the infield for the Oriole's. And Blake Benner lead the offense with multiple hits and also great plays in the outfield.
--The Petrosky Consulting A's faced the Red Sox on April 27. The A's were led offensively by Dawson Bennett. Sean Gallagher tagged a runner out on a ground ball up the first-base line. Phillip Long ended the fourth inning with a nice grab on a grounder, then beat the runner to the bag.
For the Red Sox, Christian Rush flashed some leather on his diving catch at third. Josh Garis had a stand-up double in the fifth. Liam Gallagher had an awesome game in the field and at the plate, as he took home the game ball.

Minor B
The Precision Solutions Orioles and Hilltown Police Officers Red Sox met again on May 22, finished the game after a rain delay.
Oriole Nathan Connor thrilled the crowd with a determined hustle, beating Red Sox's Drew Kramer to home for the run. The Red Sox tried their own home-plate hustle, but the Orioles' Andrew Riece was able to tag the runner. Pierce McGinley was excellent fielding at the mound.
For the Red Sox, Matt Thompson doubled to the outfield, and made a double play by himself - catching a fly ball and tagging the runner.Zachary Jacobsen and Hunter Wolff each hit doubles, with Jacobsen scoring once and Wolff scoring three times.

--It was a great morning for hitting as the Thompson Lexus Indians hosted the Bergey Lincoln-Mercury A's on May 22.
The Indians' Timmy Mastrogiovanni hit a double to deep left, while Gabriel Tironi, Ryan Wilson and Aiden Jacoby each had hits to bring runners home. The A's enjoyed strong hitting from Johnny Shafer, A.J. Neher, Matthew Sessa and Andrew Freuler.
Catcher Joseph Poust played strong behind the plate for the Indians and Dylan Main ended the first inning with an unassisted double play. The A's Jackson Cook made an impressive catch, John Parrish filed a grounder for an out at first. Adam Cameron held runners on base with strong fielding.

--The A&T Chevrolet Rockies hosted the Moyer and Sons Marlins on May 22.
The Rockies were led at the plate by Dan Carr's two doubles. Dan O'Toole, Ricky Bohn and Angelo Misnik also had great hits. In the field, Andrew David, Dan Carr, Tom Bosack and Connor Ryan had great defensive plays.
The Marlins were led at the plate by Jake Casper and Charlie McHally, who had multiple hits. Sawyer Haney had an unassisted double play and Ryan Dehaven also had a great defensive play in right field.

--The Hilltown Township Police Officers Red Sox players Zachary Jacobson, Zachary King and Jack Pearson each caught pop-ups for an out on May 19. King caught two and Jacobson doubled off a runner. Matt Biehl stopped the ball and made an out at first, while Ridley Paris, Zachary Yardly and Drew Kramer each had base hits with RBIs.
Thompson Lexus Indians shortstop Landon McIntyre quickly ended the second inning by making a triple play, catching a pop-up and tagging two base runners. Joseph Poust and Timmy Mastrogiovanni each hit balls deep to center, while Dylan Main excelled in the field.

--On May 15, the A&T Chevrolet Rockies were led by Ricky Bohn and John Saverino, who had doubles. Riley Kodidek finished with two singles. In the field, the Rockies were led by Brandon Legris, who had a double play. Andrew David had three put outs at first base.
The J. Brooke Lewis Dentistry Cubs were led by Jacob Swartley who had a double. Dalton Moore and Shane Hall each had three hits. Ryan Cook led a good defensive effort.

--The Hilltown Township Police Officers Red Sox played the Bergey Lincoln-Mercury Athletics on May 15.
The Red Sox's Josh Lankin and Ridley Paris each had base hits with an RBI. Zachary Jacobson hit a double with two RBIs. Matt Thompson and Matthew Biehl each had put-outs, while Hunter Wolff hit a hard ground ball to the fence to advance runners.
The A's A.J. Neher, Matthew Sessa and Mason Lesasz all hit doubles, including two each from Lasasz and Sessa. Eric Freuler's base hit drove in his brother Andrew Freuler for a run. Jackson Cook had unassisted put outs at second and third, while John Parrish made an impressive unassisted put out at first.

--The Thompson Lexus Indians hosted the Moyer and Sons Marlins on May 13. Dylan Main was the star hitter for the Indians with three hits for easy stand-up doubles. Landon McIntyre drove in three runs on a line drive to center field for a double. Michael O'Conner gave the Indians two more doubles with nice hits to left. Gabriel Tironi played strong at third base, fielding several grounders and tagging a runner out in the third inning.
The Marlins saw strong defense from C.J. Winters, Alex Perkins and Jacob Casper. Nathan McMahon made a nice play at third to tag out a runner. Brandon Stumpf got the last out for the Marlins, tagging out the Indians' runner going to second.

--The Precision Solutions Orioles, played the J. Brooke Lewis, D.M.D. Cubs on May 12. The Orioles had two great defensive plays at third base by Ryan Sicinski in the fourth inning. The Orioles' offense was lead by Joey Cullen, who had two singles, a run scored and an RBI. Nathan Connor added tw2 hits in the third and fourth innings and also scored twice for the Orioles. Ryan Percharo kept the Cubs alive at the plate and in the field. Ryan Cook hit a single to left for the Cubs, while James Estep led the defense with three outs in one inning.

--Hilltown Township Police Officers Red Sox played against the Moyer and Sons Marlins on May 4. The Red Sox's Matt Thompson stopped the ball and forced out the runner going to second. With bases loaded, Zachary Jacobson hit a double and cleared the bases. Matthew Biehl stopped the ball and forced out the runner going to third. Jack Pearson had a base hit with an RBI. Zachary King stopped the ball and forced out the runner going to first.
The Marlins' Brandon Stumpf had a base hit with an RBI and stopped the ball for a force out at first. Nathan McMahon blocked the ball with his body, fielded the ball and beat the runner to third for the final out of the inning. Charlie McNally stopped the ball at first for an out.

--The Bergey Lincoln Mercury Athletics were led offensively on May 1 by Andrew Freuler, who doubled in the first inning and had an RBI single in the third. Jackson Cook hit a single to drive in Ryan Ianuzzi, who later fielded a grounder at shortstop and connected with Cook at second base for the out. Owen Gunn excelled defensively, including a perfect throw to John Parrish at first for an out.
The A&T Chevrolet Rockies were led by Andrew Long and Connor Ryan with two doubles and Brandon Legris with three hits. Defensively T.J. Grenda, Tom Bosack, Andrew David and Riley Kodikek led the defense with put outs.

--The Thompson Lexus Indians hosted the Precision Solutions Orioles on April 30. The Indians saw strong hits in every inning by Landon McIntyre, who's hardest ball dropped in deep center for a double. The Orioles' bats were strongest in the third inning when Ben Sucheski started the inning with a single to right and came around to score on an hit by Joseph Cullen.
The Indians saw a great fielding duo in pitcher Aiden McCloskey and first baseman Dylan Main, who teamed up to tag-out batters in the fifth inning. Defensively, the Orioles were led by Pierce McGinley, who had a nice unassisted out at first, and a great stop by Tyler Fuchs at pitcher.

--The Joe Thompson-coached Hilltown Township Police Officers Red Sox played coach Rich David's A&T Chevrolet Rockies on April 29. Red Sox player Zachary Jacobson hit a hard ground ball that advanced two runners. Jacobson also stopped a ball for a forced out at second. Matt Thompson forced out a runner going to first and second. Hunter Wolff forced out a runner going to third. Richard Loughran had a base hit with an RBI.
The Rockies' Connor Ryan caught a pop-up and doubled up a runner at second. Brandon Legris had a base hit with a two RBIs. T.J. had a base hit with an RBI and caught a pop-up at first.

--The Dimensional Contractors and Builders Pirates enjoyed a strong offensive performance from Christopher Fanelli on April 27, as he hit a double for two RBIs. Connor Frisch had several big hits. Defensively for the Pirates, Jack Boyd had a nice unassisted out at first.
The Bergey Lincoln Mercury Athletics' Mason Lazasz had a nice unassisted out a first, while Adam Cameron tagged out two and Owen Gunn got three. The A's enjoyed a strong day of hitting led by Matthew Sessa and Eric Freuler.

T-Ball
The Swartley Bros. Engineer Cubs hosted the Passerini Construction Phillies on May 22. Alex Derk and Philip Richwine of the Phillies had a few great hits and defensive fielding. Connor Redmond and Alexander Smith of the Cubs showed nice batting skills and hustle rounding the bases. Aeryk Lehrhaupt of the Cubs and Nick Smith of the Phillies had a few great outs.

--On May 21, The Thompson BMW Marlins were led by the power hitting of Ashton McCloskey, who went deep for the second time this season. Riley Denton lined a double down the line in left and Aiden Carey had a hit and played solid defense.
Connor Redmond led the Swartley Cubs on offense along with Alexander Smith. Aeryk Lehrhaupt contributed with some solid defense.

--On May 16, the Dr. Robert Azarik Orthodontics Orioles played an entertaining game against the Thompson Toyota, Lexus, BMW Marlins. The Marlins were led by Ashtin McCloskey, Luke Mastrogiovanni, Jake Rummer, and Riley in the field. The Orioles countered with Luke Hanusey, Will Slamm, Tommy Kramer, and Nathan Esbenshade with huge hits.

--There was an exciting game between the Grim Law Office Red Sox and The Swartley Bros. Engineers Cubs on May 15. Josh Vaneman, and James McGann of the Red Sox hit well and had good defensive plays. Aeryk Lehrhaupt of the Cubs had a few nice hits and fielded the ball well.  Alexander Smith of the Cubs had a great out at third base. The Red Sox's Hunter Eschallier and the Cubs' Grayson Weikel had nice defensive fielding and hustle around the bases.

--On May 15, the Dr. Robert Azarik Orthodontics Orioles hosted the Passerini Construction Phillies. Jack Bruno,Tyler Soto and Deklyn Passerini provided the Phillies with good hitting. The Orioles had nice fielding by Will Slamm, Bryce Binder, Kieran Banks and Nicky Williams.

--It was an exciting game between the Miller Tire and Auto Pirates and the Swartley Brothers Engineers Cubs on May 13. Jackson Arroyo of the Pirates had a great hit and ran the bases quite quickly. While, Gavin Orsino had some great defensive plays for the Pirates. Colin Finley had a few nice hits for the Cubs and had good hustle on defense.

--On May 12, Passerini Construction Phillies got exceptional hitting from Reid Lechowicz, Jack Bruno and Alex Tarsi. The visiting Shawn Valez State Farm Insurance Indians got good play from Brian Thompson, Gavin Ryan and Cody Hoff.

--On May 8, The Quakertown National Bank A's received great hitting from Matt Campioe,Calib Mandia and Logan McGowan. The home Passerini Construction Phillies got great hitting from Seamus Kelly, Callahan Author and Nick Smith.

--The Swartley Brothers Engineer Cubs hosted the Dr. Robert Azarik Orthopedic sponsored Orioles on May 8. Brice Binder and Connor Tormey of the Orioles had some nice hits and defensive plays. Colin Finley of the Cubs had a couple of good hits and ran the bases well. Alexander Smith of the Cubs had a great out at third base and hit the ball well. Base running and quick thinking defensive plays were also done by Sean Leonard of the Orioles and Gabe Gunden of the Cubs.

--The Grim Law Offices Red Sox played the Passerini Construction Phillies on May 4. The Phillies were led at the plate by Reid Lechowicz, Andrew Savona and Nick Smith. The Red Sox got solid play from Zach Santai, Robert Pavlek and Danny Cavallo.

--The Grim Law Offices Red Sox played an entertaining game against the Dr. Robert Azarik Orthodontics Orioles on May 1. For the Red Sox,Josh Vaneman, Alex McAloon and Brendan O'Connor made some outstanding plays. The Orioles were led by Luke Hanusey, Sean Leonard and Will Slamm.

--It was an exciting contest on May 1 between the Thompson BMW Marlins and the Passerini Construction Phillies. The Phillies received some exceptional defense from Nick Smith and Tyler Soto. Alex Dirk had a spectacular day, getting four hits, including a double and a home-run The Marlins had strong hitting by Jared Aller and Dylan Najarian. In the field, Jacob Brauer and Liam McLaughlin made some impressive plays.

--The Swartley Bros. Engineers Cubs hosted the QNB A's on May 1. Drew Magovern of the A's showed good hustle rounding the bases, while Tyler Parry of the Cubs had some good throws and defense. The A's defense was good highlighted with plays from Brett Overbeck and a great throw by Joey Schirmer. The Cubs showed some good hitting by Ashton Price and incredible base running by Brandon Thompson.

--On April 30, the Swartley Brothers Engineers, Inc. Cubs  received good hitting from Gabriel Gunden and strong defense from both Eryk Lehraup and Tyler Perry. The home team, the Passerini Construction Phillies, got some nice hitting from Callahan Author, Jack Bruno and Joey LoBianco.

--The Grim Law Offices Red Sox got great defense on April 28 from Quinn Annan, Zach Santai and Wesley Montgomery. The Thompson BMW Marlins had great swings at the plate from Dylan Najarian, Benjamin Peacock and Jake Rumer.

DRVSA Softball

Bolts
The Modell's Sporting Goods Ice Breakers, coached by Brian Lafty edged out the QNB Indians, coached by Andrew Napolitano on May 12.
For QNB, Piper Zimmerman was defensively strong at shortstop, while collecting a single and scoring twice. Angela Napolitano provided additional offensive power with a stand-up double and three RBIs.
For Modell's Sporting Goods, Emma Lafty provided several hits, while Julia McKinney had several unassisted outs at first base and pitched well in the last inning to close out the game.

--Madison Hendricks scored three runs and was defensively strong in the field on April 28. Emily Osborne hit the ball well and was aggressive on the bases, as she also scored three runs helping coach Brian Lafty's Modell's Sporting Goods claim a victory over coach Richard Stead's Bergey's Lincoln Mercury. Lauren Yoast was hot with the bat and drove in several runs. Alysa Mahaffey was tenacious with some excellent base running.

Thunder
--Meenan Transmission and Univest finally met under cloudy skies for an exciting game on May 23.
Emily Morina of Univest team was flawless at first Base, while Casey Barnes for Meenan demonstrated extraordinary defense with a double play in left field and a triple play while playing center. Dani Meenan of Meenan also delivered a double play in the first inning. The pitching from both teams was excellent, with Emily Dossick throwing for Univest and Samantha Harty doing the same for Meenan.
Morgan Henry earned the MVP for Univest and Samantha Harty hit two doubles for Meenan to earning the MVP from her team. The game was close all throughout with Meenan coming up on top in the end.

--After a brief rain delay on May 22, Meenan Transmission to on Passerini Construction.
Hailey Bennett made a double play at first base, while Marissa Fleisch also made outs at first for Meenan. Passerini Construction's Logan Geesely-Scott and Hope Lowery help shut down the Meenan offense by catching fly balls. Geesely-Scott also supplied hits for Passerini. Kendall O'Shea provided consistent hitting including a double for Meenan.

--Snap Fitness faced Meenan Transmission on May 15. Pitching for Snap Fitness was Camryn Logue, who did a great job. Carissa Reinold for Snap Fitness provided a great hit to left. Emily Phillips and Elizabeth Pellicotti supplied consistent and strong hits for Meenan.
---Meenan Transmissions and Grim Law Offices met on a chilly night on May 12. Pitchers were Makenna Patterson for Grim and Danielle Meenan in her first game at the position for Meenan. Brittany Engel made a key catch at third base for Meenan. Doubles were hit by Alyssa Martin for Grim and Kendall O'Shea for Meenan.

--Meenan Transmission faced Thompson Toyota on May 3, with Meenan earning the win. Sarah Delgrande of Thompson made incredible catches and Casey Barnes of Meenan snagging a fly ball at shortstop. Emily Hegan had two hits for Thompson and Casey Barnes had two doubles, while Elizabeth Pellicotti had three hits for Meenan and earned the MVP from her team.

--On May 1, Meenan Transmission earned a victory over Pennridge Pediatrics. The pitching and fielding for both teams was strong, with Hailey Bennett on the mound for Meenan and Alison Yurchak for Pennridge Pediatrics. Great hitting was demonstrated by Ashley Fox for Meenan and Katherine Estep for Pennridge Pediatric.

--After a rain delay, Meenan Transmission played the Smale Stover Insurance on April 30. The game ended with Meenan on top. Great team defense was shown by both teams highlighted by Nicole Leight at first base for Meenan and Samantha Danberry at first for Smale. The bats were just as hot, with Emily O'Brien pacing Smale and Emily Phillips collecting two RBIs for Meenan team.

Dew Drops
The Thompson Lexus Lemondrops faced the Ken Beer and Sons Excavating Violets in a tense contests on May 24. Skylar Mininger and Anna Osborne had some incredible offense with power hits, while also showing their skills in the field making tremendous plays. Emily Natitus did a great job at first base, making an out. For the Violets, Madeline Edinger, Madison Kreider and Cailyn Carver did a phenomenal job hitting and playing the field.

--The Thompson Lexus Lemondrops met the David Brooke Rush Builders Clovers on May 21. For the Lemondrops, Erin Leight made a great catch at shortstop, while Riley Blore had some great plays at first base. Ceceila Tozzi had a nice stop playing second. The Clovers' Emma Pecharo, Olivia Radick and Sophia Keddie all displayed their hitting skills

--An exciting game took place between the Thompson Lexus Lemondrops and the Cooper Mechanical Inc. Pink Panthers on May 15. The Lemondrops' Aubrey Maher and Lauren Knapp made two outs each at first, while Ava Ricca also making an out at the base. Skylar Mininger made an unbelievable play at second base. The Pink Panthers' Abby McNavage making a great play at pitcher, while the team received great hits from Sara Casey and Ava McGee.

--It was cold and wet on May 11, and the Thompson Lexus Lemondrops had some tremendous hits and great fielding by Anna Osborne, Riley Blore and Ava Ricca. The Ken Beer and Sons Excavating Violets also had a great offense performance by Brooke Taylor, Sara Johnson and Jada Smith.

--The Thompson Lexus Lemondrops' Emily Natitus, Erin Leight, Skylar Mininger and Cecelia Tozzi had incredible hits to go along with their great defense in the field on May 10. For the David Brooke Rush Builders Clovers, Lea Preston, Alyssa Alosi and Morgan Pepkowski all did a fantastic job as well.

--The Thompson Lexus Lemondrops met the Cooper Mechanical, Inc. Pink Panthers on May 3. A game filled with heavy hitters, the Lemondrops continued ripping the ball inning after inning. Ava Ricca, Grace Engler and Lauren Knapp sent the ball flying each time at bat. They also showed off fielding talents at first base, shortstop and pitcher, respectively. The Pink Panthers had some memorable hitting from Ava McGee, Brynn Gentile and Olivia Bozarth.

--Morgan Ketcham had two big hits and Melanie Yurchak and Chloe Mason had great defensive plays for the Moyer and Sons Wildcats on May 1. Riley Blore, Ella Stewart and Anna Osborne all had big hits and great defensive plays for the Thompson Lexus Lemondrops.

Montgomery Township U14 team wins VIGS Select Tournament

A Montgomery Township U14 Girls Select softball team defeated Towamencin 12-4 to win the 2010 VIGS Select Tournament, held May 15-16 at the North Penn Valley fields in Lansdale. On the way to the championship, the team also beast North Penn Valley, Harleysville and Upper Perk.

PA Rush Chargers win second straight EPYSA State Cup Championship

The PA Rush Chargers U10 girls soccer team defeated the WestMont Strikers 2-0 to win its second-consecutive EPYSA State Cup Championship on May 15 in West Chester.

Quinn Guzman wins U.S. Kids Golf Philadelphia North Spring Local Tour

Quinn Guzman, age 12, placed first in the U.S. Kids Golf Philadelphia North Spring Local Tour after winning the Tour Championship at Twining Valley Golf Club in Dresher on May 8.
Guzman, a distinguished honor roll student at Indian Crest Middle School, earned two first-place finishes, two second-place finishes and two third-place finishes on the tour. He received six medals and one Player of the Year Trophy, earning the last honor after collecting 160 points, 30 points more than the next golfer.

Local girls basketball squad wins second gold at Mid-Atlantic Junior Maccabi Games

A basketball team comprised of local girls, 12 and under, went 6-0 to win the gold medal for the second straight year at the 2010 Mid-Atlantic Junior Maccabi Games, otherwise known as the Jewish Olympics, May 16 at the Kaiserman Jewish Community Center in Haverford. The team earned victories over squads from Greater Washington, D.C. (twice), Allentown, Jewish Community Center on the Palisades, Harrisburg and Metro West, N.J. in the finals.

Ukrainian Nationals Red Rocks shines in recent competitions

The Ukrainian Nationals Red Rocks soccer team, coached by Peter McMenamin, was a finalist in the Eastern Pennsylvania Youth Soccer Association (EPYSA) State Cups U-11 Girls Division and champions of the U-11 Girls Premier Division at the Yardley Makefield Soccer (YMS) Annual EPIC Tournament.

The Red Rocks clinched the top title at the YMS EPIC Tournament, held  May 8–10, in Yardley, by defeating the Haverford SC Hurricanes in the championship 5–3. McMenamin's side also played in the EPYSA State Cup Semifinals on May 1 against UMSC at West Chester, falling on a single penalty kick after the two teams played to a 1-1 tie after two overtimes.

Banshees 14U wins PONY National Qualifier

The Banshees Fastpitch Softball 14U team from Horsham went a perfect 7-0 to win the championship at the 12th Annual X-treme X-plosion, a PONY National Qualifier tournament, May 8-9 in Collegeville. The finish secures a berth at PONY Nationals in Cary, N.C.

St. Rose of Lima wins LC Softball Tournament

The St. Rose of Lima (North Wales) girls varsity softball team won the 2010 Lansdale Catholic Softball Tournament on Saturday, May 8. St. Rose defeated St. Luke's (Glenside) and St. Stanislaus (Lansdale) to reach the final, where it bested Mary, Mother of the Redeemer (North Wales) 8-4. Against MMR, Alyssa Mosser had two home runs, while Olivia Gorman struck out 12 in a complete-game effort.

DRVSA Softball

Thunder (girls ages 9-10)
On April 25, Meenan Transmission played Passerini Construction.  The Meenan Transmission girls came up on top at the end of the game, but the Passerini team was not going to let it happen easily. Elizabeth made great stops at shortstop and Natalie was the closing pitcher for Passerini. Morgan earned the MVP for the Passerini team with her hits.
Meenan's MVP, Marissa Fleish, made great plays at first base. Danielle Meenan and Samantha Harty lead the offense with multiple doubles.

--Meenan Transmission and Dr. Guy Coby DMD met on April 20.The game was back and forth throughout all five innings, with Meenan ultimately grabbing the victory.
Pitching by both teams was outstanding with Jen Rodzewich on the mound for Guy Coby team and Katie Fischer closing for the Meenan team. Fielders backed up their pitchers with great plays, demonstrated by Kaitlyn Keller for Coby and Rainey Bedeaux for Meenan. Heather Beck for Coby and Kendall O'Shea with the season's first RBI for Meenan.

Dew Drops (girls ages 5-6)
It was a beautiful day on April 23 where the Lemondrops from Thompson Lexus Lemondrops met their match with the Moyer and Son, Inc. Wildcats.
Madison Pottichen made two good plays to first. Rylee Ford made an incredible stop at second and Lauren Knapp did a terrific job fielding. Jessica Levush, Catelyn Thrush and Ava Unzicker really showed off their hitting and fielding talents.

--Grace Snyder, Aubrey Maher and Jillian Reago lead the Thompson team with great hitting and fielding on April 24. Ken Beers Squad was paced by Casey and Riley Keller and Madeline Edinger.

--The Moyer and Son, Inc. Wildcats and The Davud Brooke Rush Builders Clovers put on a batting and fielding clinic throughout their April 19 contest.
Anya Benedict, Zoe Dilts and Emma Pecharo representing the Clovers, and Isabella Scaramuzza, Lauren Lee and Kayla Weise representing the Wildcats took their skills to another level.

DRVSA Baseball

Majors (boys ages 10-12)

The Penn View Farm Marlins started their game on May 1 hitting the ball hard, as Tyler Freed and Ryan Gordon collected back-to-back home runs as the Marlins defeated the Deep Run East Mennonite Church Rockies 13-4.
Jake Wiley had some great plays at second base stopping the Rockies from scoring.
The Rockies had Justin Burkholder turn a nice double play at third base. Michael Molettiere pitched two good innings to finish the game. The game finished 13-4 with the Marlins coming away with the victory.

--The Alderfer and Travis Cardiology Red Sox played a good game against the Penn View Farm Marlins on April 29, but the Marlins came away with an 8-4 victory.
Kevin Xander put his bat to work for the Red Sox going 3-for-4 and scored two runs. Cole Rand provided great defense at second base.
Pitcher Ryan Nichols gave the Marlins three strong innings on the mound. Chase Bifilco had a good night at the plate, driving in a couple runs.

--The Thompson Organization Phillies had a great start on April 23 with Austin Rodenberger pitching well in a game the Penn View Farm Marlins won 9-6.
The Phillies Frankie Buccafuri had a nice double to center field in the first inning.
Colton Pifer, pitching for the first time this season went two strong innings giving up only one run for the Marlins. The hit of the game for the Marlins came in the fifth when Evan Freed cleared the bases before crossing the plate himself.

--The Modell's Sporting Goods Orioles played the Penn View Farm Marlins in a opening day contest on April 17, with the Marlins coming away with a 9-8 win.
Shawn Harty pitched strong in his start on the mound for the Orioles. Jack Ran hit three doubles to drive in some runs.
The Marlins had Paul Stuebing pitching three innings Ben Werkhieser following by pitching the fourth and fifth inning, and finished the game with a double to drive in the winning run.

AAA (boys ages 9-11)
Brady Bowen hit a big double and completed a nice defensive play for the Dr.Robert Azarik Orthodontics Cubs on April 26.
Jake Bauer was effective on the mound, collecting a few strikeouts, Stone Dyer had a big RBI and was very solid behind the plate.
Kevin Lewman hit a single for the Quakertown National Bank Sponsored Marlins. Jacob Kulick also hit a single, and Tyler Sessa hit two doubles,earning him the 'game ball'.

--The Quakertown National Bank Marlins played host to the Geitz Machine, Inc. Rockies on April 21.
Josh Pinkney tied the game for the Marlins in the bottom of the fourth with his fly ball well into left field. But as the daylight faded, the Rockies plated a run in the final frame for the victory.
Ryan Legris had a strong game at catcher, keeping base runners at bay.

--The Snap Fitness A's had good hitting from Jon Nase, Jeremy Baum and Patrick Coughlin on April 19. The hustle awards went to Evan Lambert and Duncan Semmens.

--For the Cubs on April 15, Zachary Alexander hit a nice double for the team. Matthew Milliron had a solid game as a catcher and got a big hit. Tyler O'Hara had five strike outs in his pitching debut.
Standouts for the Rockies were Tristan Diaz, Mikael Mastropaolo, and Scott Passerini.

Minor A (boys ages 8-9)
The Thompson Toyota Rockies faced the Orioles on April 29.
For the Rockies, Nick Lyons made a great double play, catching the ball at the pitcher's mound and tagging third base before the runner could get back. Charlie Beare ripped a very hard double to left. John Donovan also had a couple of solid hits to the outfield.
For the Orioles, Jack had a great game catching. Blake was stellar in his fielding. David made a fantastic diving play at catcher to tag the plate on a force play at home.

--The Sponsored Petrosky Consulting A's Sean Duffy and Gregory Nolan had hard hits to start off the game in the first inning on April 20.
In the second Inning, there were great defensive plays by Billy Jerdan and Daniel Cassidy at second and third base. For the Marlins Dylan Ziccardi had great hitting in the top of the five inning. He had some great swings and got three hits throughout the game.
Derek Morgan made some great plays in the field at first base and third base. Ewan Malcolm continued his excellent hitting with a nice double to center field.

--Joey Staropoli opened the season up for the Petrosky Consulting A's on April 17 by fielding a hard hit grounder and making the throw to first for the first out of the game.
Daniel Hessler tagging out a runner at second and Nicholas Altopiedi made a great throw from home plate to first. Tyler Beair ended the game with a hard hit to center field.
For the Rockies, Johnny and Charlie Beare came up with great plays at first and third to retire the side in the top of the fifth.

Minor B (boys ages 6-7)
The Precision Solution Orioles saw great hitting from Pierce McGinley on April 24, as he delivered a line-drive base hit and a double that scored two runners.
Nathan Connor showed excellent fielding skills at second base to help out the Orioles defense. Andrew Riece also played well on offense and defense. He had a huge line drive to left and an RBI, and good fielding throughout the game, with a put out at third.
The visiting Bergey Lincoln-Mercury Athletics were led at the plate by Andrew Freuler, who had a bases-clearing double. Adam Cameron had three unassisted put outs at the corners, as well as three assists in one inning on throws to the sure-handed A.J. Neher at first. Justin Grant had with two put outs in the field and solid hitting.

--On April 24, The A&T Chevrolet Rockies hosted the Mirachi Electric Phillies.
The Rockies were led by Ricky Bohn with four hits, Dan Carr with three hits and Tyler Wagenmann with three hits. The Rockies were led in the field by Andrew David who played well at 1st base.
The Phillies were equally good, with Adrian Bohinski and Christian Browning leading a potent attack with multiple hits. In the field, Brendan Bower made a great catch on a hard line drive to third.

--The Hilltown Township Police Officers Red Sox played against the Precision Solutions Orioles on April 21.
Red Sox player Zachary H. Jacobson caught a pop-up and doubled off a runner at second. He also hit a hard ground ball all the way to the fence for a double, advancing a runner.
Drew Kramer hit a double and drove in two runs. Zachary Yardley had a put-out at first and got a runner out at home. Zachary King and Ridley Paris had put outs at first. Jack Pearson and Matt Thompson had put outs at second. All the Red Sox, including Matthew Biehl, Richard Loughran, Hunter Wolff and Josh Lankinm had base hits.
Orioles player Gaven Healy made two unassisted put-outs at third. Jaden Morgan hit a double with a run batted in. Ryan Sicinski had a base hit with an RBI and had a put-out at third. Frankie Medl had an RBI and a single hit that advanced runners. Andrew Reice had a base hit with an RBI and a put out at third.

--The Bergey Lincoln-Mercury Athletics opened their season by hosting the Thompson Lexus Indians on April 19.
The Indians' Dylan Main and Bryce Muller hit back-to-back doubles, followed by a home run by Timmy Mastrogiovanni. Defensively, Marcus Pringle made an impressive catch in left field.
The Athletics were led defensively by Owen Gunn from the pitcher's mound, who connected twice with Mason Lasasz at first base. John Parrish made an unassisted out at first. A. J. Neuer fielded a fly ball at third Base in a great defensive play. Offensively, Matthew Sessa excelled with a big hit to right

--On April 17, the A&T Chevrolet Rockies hosted the J Brooke Lewis Family Dentistry Cubs.
Ryan Cook and Nico Reyes led the Cubs attack. Jacob Swartley threw out three runners in a row from third base.
For the Rockies, Andrew David had two singles and a double and Daniel O'Toole had a double and a single. TJ Grenda hit a pair of singles, while Andrew Long had double and a single. Connor Ryan had three put outs at third base in the same inning.

T-Ball (boys ages 5-6)
The Dr. Robert Azarik Orthodontics Orioles hosted the Quakertown National Bank A's in an exciting game on April 24.
For the A's Logan McGowan and Caleb Mandia had some big hits. Owen Dewitt had several nice stops in the field.
Connor Tormey, Luke Hanusey, and C.J. Dimmick had a couple hits apiece for the Orioles. Sean Leonard and Bryce Binder led the Orioles in the field.

--The Thompson BMW Marlins played a fun game against the Swartley Brothers Engineers Cubs on April 24.
Riley Denton of the Marlins had a good hit and ran the bases well. Charlie Clontz of the Cubs had some good plays at the pitching position. Running was also a highlight from Jared Atler of the Marlins and Jay Seiler of the Cubs. Other notable plays were made by the Marlins Liam McLaughlin and Ryan Martin of the Cubs.

--Azarik Orthodonics got some great defense from Connor Tormey while Zack Sacks and Kieran Bank provided offense with a couple hits each on April 22. Passerini Construction got real solid offense and defense from Seamus Kelly, while Nick Smith and Alex Tarsi each collected several hits a piece.

--The Grim Law Offices Red Sox played the Swartley Brothers Engineers, Inc. Cubs on April 20. The Red Sox got timely hitting from Danny Cavallo, Quinn Annan and John Hammond. The Cubs got solid defensive efforts from Charlie Clontz, Ryan Martin and Jay Seiler.

--The Grim Law Offices Red Sox opened the 2010 season against the Quakertown National Bank A's on April 17. Cameron Jensen and Robert Pavlek made some fine plays in the field, while Austin Rosypal and Hunter Eschallier led the attack on offense for the Red Sox. The A's received stellar play from Matt Campione, Jimmy Egner and Connor Lelii.

--The Dr. Robert Azarik Orthodontics Orioles played an exciting opening day game against the Thompson Toyota/Lexus/BMW on April 17.
The Orioles were led in the field by CJ Dimmick, Will Slamm, and Bryce Binder. The Marlins received some big hits from Hunter Burdick, Ethan Sommer, and Aiden Carey. Tommy Kramer, Luke Hanusey, and Jared Hess had several hits each for the Orioles. Meanwhile in the field, Ashton Mccloskey, Luke Mastrogiovanni, and Hunter Burdick made some amazing plays for the Marlins.

DRVSA Baseball opens season

Hundreds of baseball players showed their excitement as the official baseball season opened at Deep Run Valley Sports Association. Deep Run has over 660 registered players in the baseball program.
The Master of Ceremonies, Bob Mason began the parade and he introduced the teams. As they ran onto the field, they were given support by the Pennridge High School baseball team and the hundreds of supporters in attendance. The National Anthem was sung by Becca Cole, and the season opening blessing was given by Rev. Ken Burkholder.
The microphone was then handed to Hans Sumpf, President of Deep Run, to deliver the opening day speech. At the end of the speech, the David R. Nyman Volunteer Award was given to Brian Cassel and Duane Freed. Due to their countless hours of hard work and dedication, the Deep Run Baseball program continues to grow and improve.

Mark Cashatt TaeKwon-Do students compete at National Championships

On Saturday, April 24, the United States National Championships was held in Philadelphia. International Taekwon-Do Federation (ITF) students who won first, second or third place qualified to compete in the 2010 ITF World Championships in South Korea July 2-4.
